hexagon game download - win

Game I used to play on the PC around 2007ish. It was free to download and was a bunch of hexagonal maps. You'd play as halflings, elves, and I think dark elves or something. It played kinda similar to Shining Force on Sega back in the day (IIRC) lots of cool magic spells and stuff

A list of all the mods I love playing with in Battlefront 2 on PC!

PREFACE

To all gamers who joined us via the Epic Games free week, welcome to the Battlefront! If this is your first foray into the game you will find the in-game content fresh and entertaining for many weeks and possibly even months to come. However you can spice things up a lot by trying out some mods from the excellent modding scene this game has developed over 3 years! If you've been playing the game on PC for a while now but without any mods, hopefully my post gives you an idea of what you've been missing out on.
Mods for Battlefront 2 include:
If you're new to modding BF2, in a nutshell the steps for installing and using mods are as follows:
  1. Download and install Frosty Mod Manager (FMM) and give it permissions to Run as Administrator every time.
  2. Start FMM and give the path to the BF2 exe file.
  3. Download the mods you want from NexusMods and import them into FMM.
  4. Apply the mods you want in the right panel.
  5. The mods will be applied in the order specified in the right panel. If multiple mods modify the same file, the mod lower in the order will be the one whose changes will be in effect.
[Video tutorial showing the above steps]

DISCLAIMER

There is a non-zero risk associated with using mods in mutliplayer matches. The chances of anticheat picking up cosmetic, UI, sound and FX mods while playing online are extremely low but nevertheless they are there. Gameplay mods or stat/ability changing mods that the mod creators explicitly state never to use online have the highest risk of getting you banned and should only be used in offline game modes. I am not responsible for any mistakes you may make while using mods that could lead to you getting suspended or banned.
That said, I have been using mods in BF2 for online play since mid 2019 and I have never been banned or suspended. If you're sensible about which mods you use and when, you will most likely never have a problem. This is a luxury very few games offer.

MY LIST OF MODS

I've listed my mods by the categories they belong to. Each mod's name is the NexusMods link is to the images of the mod to let you directly view the images of the mod as I figured it would be what people would be most interested to see at first. My favourite mods which I consider to be must-haves are marked with ⭐. For some of the mods I've written a few short words. Here we go!

User Interface Mods:

This is my personal favourite category as I cannot imagine playing BF2 without these mods. Most of them are developed by u/Szaby59 and are mainstays in my mod load order.

Visual and Graphic Mods:

Gameplay Mods:

Cosmetic Mods:

Audio Mods:

And that is my list of mods! It may not have some of the very popular mods out there but this is my personal list. Hopefully this helps those who are new to modding to discover some amazing mods. If you know a mod not on my list that you feel is worth sharing, please do so in the comments.

Itch just released an absolutely insane 743 item bundle in support of BLM for $5 bucks. Not being an idiot, I obviously got it, but now I don't know where to begin.

https://itch.io/b/520/bundle-for-racial-justice-and-equality This has a list of all the games. It's Genuinely, truly overwhelming, particularly for 5 bucks. So I definitely need guidance on where to start, particularly some of the more obscure stuff you'd recommend.
Edit: A couple of the more common suggestions I've seen here! - Oxenfree - A Night In the Woods - A Short Hike - Super Hexagon - Heavy Bullets - Cook, Serve, Delicious, 2! - Death and Taxes - Catlateral Damage - Oneshot - Bleed, Bleed 2 - Dr. Langeskov, The Tiger, and The Terribly Cursed Emerald: A Whirlwind Heist (I super recommend going into this one as blind as possible for the best experience) - Minit

My massive ep5 breakdown, predictions, and end credits. Spoiler heavy. This is The Matrix.

Ep5 Wanda tries to get them to sleep and her magic fails. At this point she assumes she is controlling this reality, but learns she doesn’t control this part.
Agnes appears on-cue. This is a program that Wanda is in. It’s scripted. She’s not necessarily in control, but in a way, her actions were going to happen that would lead Agnes to come in. Meaning, no matter what she did, it led to this moment. More on this as we go along.
“Do you want me to take that again” as Agnes enters – VERY IMPORTANT. Agnes has some awareness. She thinks Wanda is in charge here. Vision is doing something she didn’t expect. She is deferring to Wanda because she assumes Wanda has created all of this. Wanda hasn’t. So when you see Wanda’s pause and she asks for Agnes to “give it a try”, she’s realizing that Agnes thinks she’s in charge, but she’s also realizing that Agnes is not behind any of this, but is aware of this on some level.
Two things at once: First, Wanda and Vision have a sidebar. Now let me say something. I think Wanda is and has been 100% telling the truth the entire time. She is a reliable narrator. When she says that “Agnes got confused for a moment”, she isn’t being vague. She’s being forthcoming, but also trying not to alarm Vision. She knows he isn’t “following the script”, whatever it is. She isn’t denying there’s a script. She’s just getting it back on script. Second, Vision keeps protesting as Agnes is “casting her lavender spell”, which she needs to finish with some “dark liquor”, a la the Dark Dimension. Tiger references and imagery persist, but there’s not enough to speculate on why yet. She says “for the twins” when it comes to dark liquor. Clearly she is doing something to them.
The kids age up. Because of Agnes. And like Wanda, I think Agnes is also a reliable narrator. I think we are led to believe she is an unreliable narrator, but I believe she is the narrator here. She says “you can’t control them” when it comes to the kids. This is a fact and a warning. She is telling Wanda that she can not control the kids. So as the script plays out, her magic can’t work. The way she says “No matter how hard you try” in regards to control is said in a somewhat hostile way. She isn’t lamenting it. She’s exercising that power over Wanda.
We go to the intro. I am going to talk more about this as it goes on. The paintbrush is imbued with the aether, with the power of the Dark Dimension, a la Malekith. As it imbues Vision with life. The aether is reality, aka the Reality Stone. So when she asked before “is this real?” and Vision goes “yes, my dear”, it’s because of the aether. And the aether is linked with Dormammu’s Dark Dimension from Thor 2. I like intro of “we’re making it up as we go along” not because I think it’s about the script, but it’s about construction. Constructing the reality. We are making the physical objects of reality as we go along. I will talk more about this in regards to the end credits, something really not well-analysed.
We go to Rambeau. She remembers pain and Wanda’s voice in her head. She talks about a hopeless feeling keeping her down; drowning, grief. She is feeling Wanda’s feelings. And for good reason.
We see the x-rays for Rambeau. I mentioned this in a different post, but all of this stuff is predicted on gamma rays. I was hoping someone would figure it out. No one has. These stones have gamma power. X-rays are on a different wavelength. Wanda has the power of the Mind Stone, the Time Stone, Space Stone, and the Reality Stone at play here. I will discuss this more later, but TV is in RGB, Red/Green/Blue, Reality/Time/Space Stones. People wonder how she has these powers of the other stones, but they exist and are being used. For Rambeau, she is “pushed” and “encased” in Wanda’s Mind Stone powered hex, then ejected while “on fire” through RGB, which are the other 3 stones in play. This is how they will explain her powers/being Photon. Because she is filled with the gamma radiation of the Infinity Stones. Keep in mind, x-rays have photonic energy, as do gamma rays. Within lower wavelengths to the x-rays are the wavelengths of broadcasts as well. X-rays are the power of the atom, gamma are the power of the atom’s nuclei. It’s pretty nonsensical to try and use x-rays to x-ray photonic light. She is Photon and this is why. Also worth noting, Rambeau has a very good idea of what happened to her and she is not going to be taken off this case. This is why she refuses to cooperate. The moment she is told the x-ray is blank, she has a good suspicion. She knows exactly how Wanda and Captain Marvel were made and she understands basic physics quite well.
Hayward does his briefing. He is quite adamant about painting Wanda as the aggressor here. Woo tries to be more objective, but Hayward is annoyed. He wants Wanda dead. He’s trying to prejudice everyone against her. Now this gets interesting. We take what Hayward and Rambeau say to each other about the situation. But they are wrong and often wrong, just as we are. We shouldn’t believe them. She’s a terrorist. She’s put up her own quarantine. She’s holding these people hostage. This is narrative sleight of hand. None of that is right.
Then he says he received authorization to share the “kidnapping of Vision’s corpse”, which is nonsense. He’s the acting director. He’s using this to prejudice those around him. He says she stole the Vision and resurrected him. But we know he had a will. He wanted to stay dead. We also know from prior episodes that SWORD is “sentient weapons” – she was “rescuing” him from being turned into weapons tech. We take Hayward at his word that she resurrected him, but I find that doubtful. He was resurrected, but it wasn’t she that did it. Nevertheless, Hayward’s obvious motive for wanting her dead is to sell this narrative so that he can cover his ass. He was doing something illegal and unethical with Vision’s corpse. Even Hayward acknowledges the will, yet he’s experimenting on the Vision? If Rambeau’s eyes could kill, he would be dead. He has used classic misdirection to make people think about her lovelorn grief rather than his illegality. By bringing it up, he controls the narrative.
Ok. Very quick. 12:38, you see in the frame the tiger. But, if you look closely, two more things. One is an elephant. I really like this symbolism here. If we look at Dr Strange, Nepal, and Hindu symbolism, the tiger is strength, while the elephant is protection. Among other things. But the fact they framed these two together after Agnes mentioning a tiger isn’t a coincidence.
Yet that’s not even the most important thing.
What you see behind the elephant is the colour spectrum. Let’s go back to the x-ray, gamma ray, radio/tv waves talk. Light and colour spectrum as visible light from lowest to highest goes red, yellow, green, blue, purple. This painting goes the exact opposite. Or, you could say “mirrored”. And as we know, Kaecelius and his followers use the Mirror Dimension as a way to increase their power in conjunction with the Dark Dimension. Why would they leave us this clue, but with the colours of the visible light spectrum inverted?
Now let’s look at the fridge. Here’s how I think Vision helped create the kids. Or perhaps the reality. What were his calculations for? Their genome? Their reality? At the top of the fridge, you have the orange, yellow, and brown painting. At the bottom, you have red, yellow, orange, dark blue, and green.
If you do statistical computing or modelling, you know exactly what this is, don’t you? It’s a heatmap and a colour key. And what do we do with things like MATLAB, R, or S?
You can create graphics, can’t you? Like this reality. You can perform modelling functions, with linear and nonlinear math. How about geometric construction with spatial analysis? Histograms. Which measure…what? Quality. Quality of data. Continuous, quality data. Such as a stream.
Maybe they are mapping a genome?
I don’t know, but as someone who’s done a little statistics, I instantly recognized the colour groupings. The explanation is probably that Vision doing the supercomputing and number crunching is what advances the decades, allows the kids to grow, etc. There’s a reason he works at this job. And if he’s “management material”, perhaps he is potentially the mechanism who exists to facilitate this reality.
They get the dog. Then Vision says he has a feeling someone is going to “pop over” – BOOM! Agnes appears. Vision is becoming connected to the program. Remember, programs are scripts. TV shows are scripted. We used to call them “TV programs”. If he’s a manager of this reality, if he’s controlling it, he’s facilitating it, causing it to happen, aware of it. Something. But Agnes appears with exactly what they all need: a doghouse.
Next thing is that Wanda makes a collar for Sparky right in front of Agnes. This goes to what I said earlier: Wanda figured it out. Agnes is part of this overall program. She knows that whatever she does in front of Agnes is irrelevant as Agnes is mainly there to facilitate the program itself. We are led to believe she has free will, but this “awareness” is part of the script. Her function in the program is to do QA. You remember I mentioned quality in regards to data integrity?
Vision is the project manager. This is hilariously rooted in project management. Agnes is QC/QA for the project. Anyone doing QC/QA has to be able to play the game, but also come up with fixes and feedback on the fly. Wanda is trying to go rogue and Vision is trying to keep her on track, keep her from using her abilities. He asks her “what aren’t you telling me”, which is a trick. She’s not actually hiding anything because she doesn’t fully know. When the kids age up so they can have the dog, this shows what Agnes said, which is that you can’t control the kids. As someone helping to maintain this program, she knows they are unmanageable variables.
When Woo brings the coffee cups (he’s totally gonna win Darcy over with this, BTW), notice the design. It’s TV pixels. CRT pixels are square (rectangular, actually), but some displays can use pixels in that shape. The offsetting pixels are like old TVs, but the shape there is something in a newer TV. And of course, newer monitors can also be hexagonal. Furthermore, the colours they chose were not the RGB of a TV, red, blue and white, which is used to represent Vision in the end credits. More on that later.
When Rambeau is asking for the vehicle to get in, she knows. She knows the photons and neutrons. She has already figured it out, which is why she needs that protection to get it. The seismic blasts? What if it’s the opposite? What if she isn’t asking for tantalum to protect herself from seismic blasts? What if she wants it to be able to use it for something.
Another interesting thing about tantalum is that it is similar to niobium. That is named for Niobe, who also happens to be a character in…The Matrix. More on that later.
She also mentions she knows an aerospace engineer who’d be up for the challenge of getting her in there with this “device” she wants to make. People are saying it’s Dr Doom or Reed Richards. Maybe.
Now this is my big one: Darcy says she calls the anomaly “The Hex”. Ryan Arrey was so close today, but he missed it. He made a video WITH SCENES FROM THE MATRIX and still failed to figure it out. I got so frustrated I decided to make this post.
This is The Matrix. It’s not a “hex” it’s a HIVE. Now we can go way into why hives are strong, a perfect shape, etc. This is a hive created for Wanda. She isn’t “mind controlling” these people. They are part of her hive mind. Totally different. All of this hex symbolism, the beekeeper, etc. It’s a hive. Wanda can do the things she is doing (and never could before) because the people in the town are part of a hive collective, no different than how The Matrix constructs reality. She isn’t controlling them, they are the “battery” a la The Matrix. All of the people are absorbing her bad side of the duality, leaving her free to work.
Agnes said it best: you can’t control kids. So any kids in the town, at least so far, would not be controllable. All of these people are absorbing Wanda’s pain, distress, whatever. They amplify her power. Vision manages the operation. We don’t know who Architect is. Wanda is like Neo; she has to choose the red or blue pill. Agnes is more like The Oracle, but not so nice. Agnes is still a human, but also a semi-sentient program. It’s very interesting. Anyway, this is a hive.
Going back to e4, it’s worth noticing when Rambeau goes through, the pixels are hexagonally-arranged. This is cool because it’s something that could be a ball, a globe, a hive, etc.
They say Wanda is wielding an insane amount of power, far beyond anything she’s displayed in the past? Because the hive is housing her power, she’s drawing on the people in the hive for power, Vision is focusing the hive to enhance her power, and she’s able to draw upon the power of different stones which are constructing this hive. I predict that once she is “detached” from all of this, she will either be a walking Infinity Gauntlet or go back to normal. I suspect she is what Dr Strange must stop in the multiverse of madness. I predict this experiment will fail when Vision becomes too aware and no longer does the computational work to keep the thing going. And I think he will likely awaken more people and end up harming the operational functionality of the hive.
Now they get into this argument about Captain Marvel’s powers coming from an Infinity Stone. People have speculated that she has a beef with CM, they are estranged, lovers (eww, gross), she feels abandoned, etc. I disagree. This goes back to the medbay exam: every time someone could find out Rambeau’s secret, she is trying to change the subject. Rambeau either knows or suspects she has powers. It’s only a matter of time before they find her out and she doesn’t want them to work it out by discussing it. That’s all it is.
Onto the Computational Services scene. I find it interesting that a show that is so thorough, detailed, and accurate, would say “surf the internet”. Very surprised no one has said anything. First of all, the c64 computer was released in 1982. This is an 80s episode. In the 80s, “the internet” was a term used to basically describe the tools for internetwork connectivity on the ARPANET. You see, until 1990, it was still called ARPANET. If The Vision is accessing “the Internet” via a dial up modem, it means he knows this isn’t the 1980s and he is trying to get outside digitally. Furthermore, TCP/IP didn’t even exist for the c64 until hobbyists implemented it decades later. He created his own term program and TCP/IP stack so he could dial out to connect to the internet. And there is an “electronic mail” waiting for him…but it wasn’t his. He has intercepted an email from Darcy’s findings send by SWORD.
Now everyone repeats the entire thing. Hive. Hive mind. They are all trying to “authenticate” by cracking it. This breaks the illusion for a moment. What we learn here is they are all nodes in a hivemind working as distributed computers. When the simulation encounters a bump, all processing power is routed to the human nodes to solve the problem.
This next step is key. Vision “absorbs” what he can from the computer, ie the “outside world”. He realizes Norm is an object in a bigger program. So he “downloads” the reality into his hands and “uploads” it into Norm’s mind, while downloading Norm’s OS. Norm breaks free. He is redpilled.
Norm flips out. And he says “you have to stop her” – but don’t assume anything. Let’s park that. Vision, realizing this is not right, “reboots” Norm and reloads his prior operating system.
Let’s talk about “her”, as in “in his head”. Everything about Wanda is in everyone’s heads. The “her” to stop may or may not be Wanda, though. Is Norm a reliable narrator? When they are intentionally vague like this, perk up your ears. It could be that it’s Agnes or someone else that needs to be stopped.
No, perhaps the reason it hurts is because his brain is being overclocked to run this program for Agnes. It could be that he’s like Rambeau and she’s in his head. But Rambeau was more of a Morpheus or Neo; an anomaly the system had to cast out. Norm might be load balancing Wanda’s psychoses, or he might be serving a different role, which is a computational one for Agnes or another person. His statement can mean other things. I think this is a misdirection. I think someone else is controlling the townspeople. Just like when Sharon Davis was saying “stop it” over and over and e1, this was NOT Wanda. She was asking Vision to stop what was being done to her and her husband.
“Sit, Sparky, sit. Good dog.” Sit Ubu, sit. Good dog. Love it.
The twins and Wanda argue about the day being Saturday or Monday. Wanda is genuinely confused. The twins are not. They are right. She isn’t making an excuse or lying. She legitimately believes he had an emergency at the office and had to go in. Which makes sense, because if the twins are also creating life by conjuring dogs and growing up, the program needs some help. Script-wise, he is compelled to go in. Wanda doesn’t know this, she only accepts this.
She says that she and Vision aren’t on the same page, which is temporary. She needs him to adjust the program. She is both voluntarily and involuntarily following a routine. For whatever reason, she knows she has to maintain this, even if she doesn’t fully understand or acknowledge it. The twins ask her about her brother. She is broken out of her loop. She is surprised to remember this. I don’t think it’s just sadness. When she says “he’s far away from here” it’s foreshadowing. XMU QS is her brother as well.
Sparky is an interesting part of the program as well. He alerts to the intrusion of the drone. It’s almost as if he’s like an antivirus software or monitors the firewall, much like the sentient programs of The Matrix. All of the people complain about the jump cuts. That Wanda is taking the drone out of the shot. I don’t believe that. When Rambeau was cast out, we didn’t see what happened until later. The reason we’re not seeing it is because the broadcast shows the finished reality; as viewers we see it in realtime in the hive. I think it glitches because the simulation rewinds so that the shot cannot be fired. The live feed from the drone is transmitted on a wavelength separate from the final output product of the broadcast reality. The simulation had to be changed so that there wasn’t an attempt on her life.
“Well, I’m not the one with the guns, Director.” How does Wanda know that? Because she dealt with him before. We’re going to find that she knew he was doing illegal stuff with Vision’s corpse. And she full well knows Hayward is trying to kill her for one simple reason: to hide the evidence of what he’s done. I don’t think he’s a supe, Mephisto, etc. HYDRA? Perhaps. I think he’s inadvertently made an enemy of Wanda by what he was doing with Vision. She gets snapped back, goes to find out what happened to Vision, and he’s been dissected and weaponized for the past 5 years. He did it. And she can ruin him. He needs her dead at all costs to save his skin. He tries to gaslight again, saying she’s a hostage taker. She neither confirms nor denies that. Whatever they are, she doesn’t see them as hostages.
She also speaks in her regular accent and voice with her regular clothing. This is because she is outside of the program. Outside of the roleplaying. She conforms to the reality inside as much as it conforms to her.
Now this is good. Rambeau has already figured out that Hayward betrayed everyone. Wanda plays it very smart. Hostile towards Rambeau. She’s not going to blow her cover. Rambeau misleads us again. She says Wanda is in control. We believe her, but Wanda gives us nothing. You watch Wanda closely. Rambeau says “telepath”, begging Wanda to read her mind. Wanda does. Rambeau is telling Wanda EVERYTHING that is going on. This is why she says “no one will ever take it from me again” because she now knows what Hayward has done by reading Rambeau’s open mind. Part of this is anger, part is theatre. Why does she take her hex ball at suddenly put it on Hayward at the end instead of Rambeau? Because Rambeau told her everything psionically.
It’s cool because when Wanda re-enters, it’s through a green portal. Time. The show has to be fixed. That’s why we get a commercial break. The mess being made that they didn’t mean to wasn’t Lagos, Nigeria. It was interrupting the show. The main impetus as to why I think Vision is a part of the program is “husbands can use it, too”. It’s what opened my eyes to this. Because he has to maintain the program to make it all work as well.
They get back and there’s a mess. The Sparky program is missing. The mailman says that Wanda will find him, because on some level he knows she also “cleans up the mess”, as It were.
This is where it really goes off the rails. I don’t think Agnes killed the dog. I don’t think Agnes had anything to do with it. I think it was probably something to do with the drone and it happened offscreen. I think the program had to find a way for the dog to be plausibly dead. I think Agnes is genuinely shocked and she is filling a role to try and keep to the script.
I love this line: “You can fix anything, mom. Fix the dead.”
Just stop and think about it. What if it’s them actually telling her a capability rather than a request. This is a command. She is genuinely perplexed at them saying this. Not because she is letting them down, but because she is realizing that she actually has this power. That she could bring Vision or anyone else back to life. Agnes is shocked. Again, she is a 100% honest actor. She didn’t know that Wanda had been enabled to do this.
Watch the kids. “Bring him back, mom.” They are insistent. “Can you bring him back?” is asking for capacity to do something. It’s implied. This is explicit: “Bring him back.” “You can fix anything.” “Fix the dead.” She can fix this reality, she can fix Vision’s death, anything. They fully understand her capabilities even though she does not. During that entire scene, she’s starting to figure it out and it’s shocking her as to why she’s there. She declines for the same reason Mordo warns Strange: she understands not to mess with reality.
Let’s take a time out. There are a few things from the Doctor Strange film we need to address.
The scene where Strange is caught red-handed with the Eye of Agamotto by Mordo. Mordo tells him “Temporal manipulations can create branches in time. Unstable dimensional openings! Spatial paradoxes! Time loops!
This is how Quicksilver appeared. Dimensional openings. Mordo is telling you that the Time Stone, being used incorrectly, ends up with the power of the Space Stone, inadvertently. When the show is glitching, it’s because it’s a paradox. Sparky is a program. Sparky crashed. Sparky died. He got an “unexpected error” as a security program.
“You weren’t manipulating the space-time continuum; you were wrecking it!” The Space Stone and Time Stone form a continuum. This how Quicksilver appeared: the Time Stone made the TV show in the relevant time period to X-Men: Armageddon. This was 1983. We know with the c64 it was 1982. The Space Stone is what allows people to transport. And the aether gives a conduit to the Dark Dimension. Feige had this mapped out all the way back to Thor 2. This isn’t Quicksilver from Dark Phoenix, either. 90’s come next week.
“Dormammu dwells in the Dark Dimension, beyond time.” I think this is interesting because they are inferring how the stones work together. The Space and Time stones work together, but the Reality Stone can change how they work in a new way.
“Complicated? The Dark Dimension is volatile, dangerous. What if it overtook her? She taught us it was forbidden, while she drew on its power to steal centuries of life.” If Agnes is Agatha Harkness, this is how she’s hundreds of years old. I just thought that was cool. Nice explanation. Things are going sideways in Westview because of the Dark Dimension as well.
This is the “big crime” and it’s consequences: “Just as you gave Kaecilius powers from your dimension, I’ve brought a little power from mine. This is time: endless looped time.” I said before, Space-Time Stones are linked. Before this line, Strange says “No, this is real.” because he’s brought some reality to the Dark Dimension. I think that by adding time to Dormammu and the Dark Dimension, Strange “cross the streams” as it were. I think this is why we are able to see the powers of the other stones without them being there because the Dark Dimension has now been “polluted” by them. We are seeing powers from the stones without the stones existing right now. How?
So as we look at the dog here, dead, we’re left to wonder if she has the power to fix this, and if she does, dare she mess with reality to fix it? At this point, she’s starting to understand that she’s like Neo and can bend some of the rules of her reality. Just going back to the “fix the dead” command, she knows what Mordo knows. Why? We’re not sure yet. I suspect it will be revealed in DSMoM. When she’s explaining the rules in life to the kids, she is teaching them not to use their powers to mess with reality or break natural laws. This is a lesson.
When you look at Agnes, there’s a look of concern about death being reversed or them ageing up. When she is firm with the kids, Agnes is relieved. She isn’t just sad for the kids, she is scared. She is scared of what Wanda might have done to her, or worse, what the kids might have done. You can view it as her being afraid to disappoint them, or just being afraid. When she apologises so them, she is hoping they don’t punish her. It’s also worth questioning if their look at each other was to age themselves up, or to punish Agnes or even bring Sparky back to life. Wanda isn’t a reliable narrator, either. We assume this was their intent because it’s what she said. Agnes just doesn’t know what any of them can do.
Vision talks about Norm. “I spoke to him free of your oversight.” Watch Wanda here. She’s laughing because she’s figured it out. She wants to get Vision back on track. When they deviate from the script, bad things happen. People choke. Sparky dies. Whatever. When Vision says “you can’t control me way you control them”, suddenly the credits roll. She says “can’t I?” Because she’s figuring out she can.
He asks about The Maximoff Anomaly. She doesn’t know. They are saying so much here. We’re supposed to believe Vision. That this is created by her subconscious. That she’s just now becoming aware of it. It’s true she’s becoming aware that it’s created by her, but it isn’t intentional. She is just trying to stay on the script.
He says Norm can’t reach his family because Wanda won’t let him reach them. She says she doesn’t know what he’s talking about. She is telling the truth. Norm is programmed. She isn’t running the hive program.
“This, all of this is for us. So let me handle it.” Line of the show so far. Everyone has gotten this completely, absolutely wrong. It’s “for us” as in someone created it for them, not for their benefit. It’s like breaking into a building and the alarm goes off. You go “what are those sirens?” and I say “those are for us.” We did something to cause that. When she says “let me handle it”, she isn’t saying “let me please have this”, she is saying “I can’t tell you what’s going on without compromising my fight here.”
This is right out of Dr Strange in Infinity War. She can’t tell them what will happen or it won’t happen. She can’t tell them what they’re in, because it will blow it up. She’s only just learning what it is and she knows she needs to keep a lid on it. Vision accuses her of lying so we believe she’s lying. She isn’t lying. She’s saying to let her handle it.
Vision then says that he’s scared and can’t remember his life before Westview. That’s because this is the 1980s. He can’t remember his life because he didn’t exist yet.
“You are my husband. You are Tommy and Billy’s father.” She is trying to instill in him the role he needs to play, not to define something he isn’t.
He then asks why there are no other children is Westview. It doesn’t mean there aren’t. It only means he doesn’t see them. She says “Do you really think that I’m controlling everything? This is the truth. She is trying to find out what his role is, especially with free will. “Walking their dogs, mowing their lawns, getting them to their dentist appointments on time.” All things a computer would do in The Matrix
“I don’t know how any of this started in the first place.” This again is the truth. She doesn’t know. But she is very wary of screwing it up too hard. And Vision says “what she’s doing here is wrong”, and as soon as there’s going to be a breakthrough…what should appear?
XMU Quicksilver. Right on cue. As the script demands. This is, after all, a TV show.
She says she didn’t do it. And like the credits rolling, she’s telling the truth. She can read the lines, but she can’t write or direct the episode.
When we see her see Pietro, it isn’t a “oh my God, it’s you”, it’s an “oh my God, this is you, from another reality in the multiverse. This is her figuring out the nature of The Matrix.
Darcy is lying. She didn’t recast Pietro. Do not believe the narrators. Do believe Wanda is happy to see Pietro. And she can read his mind and knows that it’s her Pietro, the XMU Pietro…she is understanding the nature of this simulation, the multiverse, etc. That look on her face is her putting it all together.
I am writing this (or have been for a week) after knowing the e6 spoilers. Don’t read this paragraph if you don’t know what happens tonight. I had guessed that this Pietro is BOTH her Pietro and the XMU version. When she gets teary-eyed, she can feel it’s her Pietro. But it’s also XMU, which is why he says “who’s the popsicle” because XMU Pietro has no knowledge of The Vision. There are prime version of beings who exist across multiverses. Her Pietro is the gateway to the XMU Pietro. It’s how they’re going to link everyone together. I predict there is an equivalent Wolverine, Magneto, whatever, and they will be MERGED somehow. They aren’t going to “bring them over” per se. It’s that these people always existed in both universes (or all of them) and these “multiverses of madness” bring aspects of these people to the MCU. It’s why we’ll have a Spiderverse. We won’t have Tobey’s Doc Ock, the Doc Ock of the MCU will be merged with the Maguireverse Doc Ock. People will cross over, some will be changed, merged, etc. They aren’t going to have everyone from the XMU walk into the MCU, but they are going to have things from the XMU “awaken” the equivalent in the MCU, where possible.
Finally, the end credits: the pixels are a tesseract, structures built of pixels
Red, green, and blue pixels. Red is anything constructed, green is the Time Stone, blue is the Space Stone. As Vision’s stone falls, it’s RGB, which is his old stone. The new one for him now is red. It changes colours as it falls. There is a marriage of red and blue. Everything is blown away, then reassembled and “married” into red and blue. Aether works with Dark Matter due to Malekith. It changes reality, darkly. Possible Agents Of SHIELD link. But probably Dark Dimension, aka “Hell”, ruled by Dormammu. Remember Strange Violated the laws of “everything” which has consequences. We are seeing them now. The Ancient One drew power from there, so it works on our plane. Someone was able to change reality from the Dark Dimension without the aether. This opening will also be how they work in Ghost Rider, aka Spirit of Vengeance. AOS is probably canon, this is how Ghost Rider can come back, and Morgan Le Fay may also be the one behind Westview. Remember: the Dark Dimension is beyond time. The stones exist in different times as well. The stones may also be eternal.

Designing a Hex-crawl - Alternative Map Scales and a Guide to Making Useful Hex-maps for Running the Exploration Pillar in 5e

I’m a world builder at heart. When I chose to begin a campaign based around a hex-crawl exploration I decided to build the setting from the top down to give the most grandeur and realism possible to the landscape. The hope was to create a sense of vast distance and scope while applying the Player’s Handbook and Dungeon Master’s Guide travel pace/exploration rules, so that travel has higher stakes and occasionally requires greater attention to resource management in harsh environments. The campaign was envisioned as an exploration into the wilderness of a newly uncovered lost continent.
This left me with the challenging task of turning my maps into a cohesive hex-crawl that I could easily track, and that my players would enjoy. I set out to devise an easy way to turn my own digital map resources into a tool for planning a west-marches style sandbox campaign, and I think that I’ve accomplished my goal!
This short guide outlines how I went from a map of my whole globe to creating a set of physical exploration maps and map keys that are easy to integrate and useful for running the exploration pillar in any game.
To begin with I started with the adventure's location. This map set was made by importing the coastlines and heightmap of my location into Wonderdraft and making a hex-grid overlay, however any map making tool of your preference will work for here if it will allow you to specify the scale of your hex-grid. The length of the short diagonal on your hex-grid should correspond to one of the map scales outlined below, and it should be 1-2 scales above the level of detail that you want to represent with each hex on your exploration map.
Combining scales
My maps use this nested hexagon pattern to accomplish easy translation between styles of gameplay. Because we can continually nest 7 hexagons inside of a single larger hexagon this way, we can expand the map scales on page 14 of the Dungeon Master’s Guide as follows:
At the new regional scale the land is rendered in enough detail to track the characters movement across each hex in terms of hours instead of days, and small wilderness expedition can be tracked with a satisfying level of granularity.
At the political scale each hex is a single day of ordinary travel, so a journey on established roads that is tracked in terms of days or weeks is easier to show on this map scale.
The world scale makes it easy to visualize your world map (if you have one) in terms of the length of sea voyages or other fast methods of travel.
A case for the 8-mile hex
Travel in the Player’s Handbook (p.181) follows a 4:3:2 system where a group of creatures can move 4 miles per hour at a fast pace, 3 miles per hour at a normal pace, and 2 miles per hour at a slow pace. Over an 8-hour day the travel pace table generalizes the mile per hour speeds, but we will see a good reason not to do this.
The Dungeon Master’s Guide includes rules for flying (p.119), which can be accomplished to increase the rate of travel for the party. These rules state that mounted flying creatures can use their flight speed for 9 hours over the course of the travel day, taking a 1-hour rest after each 3-hour span of flight.
The rules for traveling on overland mounts are hiding on page 181 in the Player’s Handbook as well. It says that mounted characters choose their travel pace as normal, however at any point in the day they can choose to replace their travel pace with a fast ‘gallop’ covering 8 miles in 1 hour. A character in a well populated region can conceivably find an inn or stable every 8-10 miles where fresh mounts are available, allowing for repeated uses of this ‘gallop’ feature and letting the character travel for 64 miles before potentially becoming exhausted, but otherwise the distance covered by a character on an ordinary mount simply obeys the travel pace table in the Player’s Handbook.
Finally, every vehicle or vessel, such as those provided in Ghosts of Saltmarsh and other supplements, give their speed in miles per hour. Since many of these creations can travel for 24 hours a day, provided their crew works in shifts, it is more useful to think of the rate of travel for ships and similar vehicles in terms of miles per hour instead of miles per day.
Taking all this in, I found that making the basic unit of my own hex-crawl the 8-mile hex provided an elegant solution to overland travel. Unlike other sizes of hex the 8-mile hex scales up and down neatly as seen above to make tracking daily travel a breeze. 8 miles is also the shortest amount of progress that a party can make (moving slowly, and through difficult terrain) in one day of travel.
By discarding the daily adjustment provided in the travel table, a fast pace of 4 miles per hour sustained for 8 hours can cross 4 hexes on this map, a normal pace can cross 3 hexes, and a slow pace of 2 miles per hour crosses only 2 hexes. This makes it useful for tracking both distances and time spent travelling over journeys of an indefinite length, or ones where the speed of travel may change drastically (such as utilizing a folding boat or magic carpet).
Creating the exploration map
The first step is to settle on a scale for your exploration map. Your chosen scale should reflect two things: the time scale of the journey cycle (will it be tracked in hours, days, or weeks?), and the level of detail at which you want to track changes in the environment for the purposes of tracking navigation difficulty and random encounters.
While creating my maps I wanted to track a journey of about one week using a journey cycle of days, and to allow for up to three environments (Dungeon Master’s Guide p.302) to be crossed in a single day of travel. I chose the 8-mile hex for my map scale and made the 24-mile hexes visible on the exploration map for clarity and ease of use. For shorter journey cycles tracked in hours you might choose the 1-mile hex map scale, letting you zoom in close on landscape features or visualize the regional effects of powerful creature’s lairs.
Once you have chosen a scale you must then reproduce the features that you want to be visible on your map at that scale. Software can help with this, or you can do it the old-fashioned way! No matter how you create your exploration map the result should be the same. A map that shows the entire span of a journey, to accurate scale, representing the features of the terrain as you have designed it, and usable by your party to navigate (Player’s Handbook p.183) to any of the locations that it shows.
With this finished you’re 50% of the way to being able to run your hex-crawl, you just need to populate your map with some environments! On a separate sheet of hexagonal grid paper label each of the hexes on the exploration map with a coordinate and assign each one with an environment, creating a map key.
Environments, such as coast, swamp, grassland, or mountain, are useable with the Dungeon Master’s Guide and the Monster Manual to give you an idea of the type of creatures that call this area of your map their home. The map key is also the place where you can note which hexes are home to unique creatures or locations that will require more expanding upon, such as a settlement or a dungeon.
Bringing it all together
The hex scale, the exploration map, and the map key all come together into a useful set of tools that operate fluidly within the existing exploration framework of 5e, including the Unearthed Arcana: Into the Wild, and the new Dungeon Master’s Screen: Wilderness Kit.
As the party moves across the landscape they will set their travel pace and choose their destination on the exploration map at the beginning of each journey cycle.
They can follow roads or waterways to their destination, or navigate against the difficulty class of the terrain making some number of miles of progress with each day of travel.
As the party travels there is always the potential for an encounter. When an encounter has been determined the prevailing environment on your map key can be used to quickly create a believable encounter using the tables provided in Appendix B of the Dungeon Master’s Guide, or you can roll on the Random Encounter tables provided in a book like Xanathar’s Guide to Everything.
Supplies that are consumed regularly over the course of the day can also be easily tracked. Because the hex-scales nest into one another, and you can fit multiple scales onto one grid, you can always have a hex-scale available to you that will neatly reflect the distance covered over one day of travel.
Finally, the party may track their progress on the exploration map at the end of each journey cycle (an hour, a day, or a week). They can make notes of interesting locations and encounters or determine how lost they’ve become through poor navigation.
Ready to explore!
I think that the hex-crawl is an awesome tool for giving players freedom, whether you’re running a sandbox-style campaign or chronicling the hunt for a legendary monster’s lair, and I want to see it used more! If you’ve gotten this far then I hope that this small guide has given you a place to start if you are thinking of running a hex-crawl adventure in your own game. Thanks for checking out my post, and if you have any constructive criticism or improvements I would love to hear them!

The 288 Games I Played in 2020; or, How I Got Out of a Backlog Rut

At the end of 2019 I made my first New Year's Resolution ever for 2020: I would buy no new video games, and only play those that I had amassed in my backlog (which contained roughly 2,100 unplayed games (I know)). And to make it extra interesting, I gave myself the goal of playing one game a day, or 366 games in 2020 and writing a short review of each one.
As you can see from the title of this post, I didn't quite make it to one game a day, but I did make it to 288 games, which is more than I've ever played in a year, beating my long standing 2014 record of 228 games played. 2020 was hard enough in other ways that I'm going to call that a success, and the best part was I'm more excited about playing through the rest of my library than I ever have been.
That said, here are my top 10 favorite games I played for the first time in 2020, which I guarantee will be at least 80% different from any similar lists you've read on this subreddit (full ranked list in comments):
10. Panzer Bandit (Fill-in-Cafe, 1997) An PS1 anime beat-'em-up that plays like a single player fighting game (which makes sense given the developer made fighting game Asuka 120%). Just like Asuka, Panzer Bandit has a fantastic sense of impact to your hits, and is all about freedom of movement and building huge combos. It's like the training mode of a fighting game fleshed out into a full experience. Physical copies are pretty pricey, but it's available to download on the Japanese PS3 store.
9. Mahou Daisakusen (aka Sorcer Striker) (Raizing, 1993) A fantasy-themed vertically scrolling shooter from the wizards who would go onto make Battle Garegga a few years later. It has everything I look for in a scrolling shooter: it’s short, and has interesting bosses, a great soundtrack, and beautiful art. I played the PS4 port in M2's ShotTriggers line, which has quickly become my favorite series of games when I want to treat myself with a luxurious good time.
8. Suzuki Bakuhatsu (Sol, 2000) A puzzle game about defusing bombs that appear inside of normal objects the day-to-day life of a young Japanese woman. Suzuki Bakuhatsu has more character and style than games with 100 times its budget. Suzuki Bakuhatsu is what we talk about when we talk about weird Japanese video games, by which I mean it is an experience that: *Runs with its absurd premise *Has excellent presentation *Is focused more on the possibilities of interesting gameplay than making sense These kinds of video games are the kinds of video games that keep me interested in the medium.
7. Doom II (Id Software, 1994) I don’t think I have much to say about Doom II that hasn’t been said, this is more of just filling a hole in my gaming history knowledge (I only played the original Doom a few years back and loved it). Doom II is basically just more Doom, though the levels skewed a little harder and less enjoyable on average, there were still some real bright spots (everyone talks about Barrels o Fun, but I’m over here gushing over Dead Simple).
6. Esp Ra.De. Psi (Cave, 1998) Another vertically scrolling shooter in M2’s ShotTriggers line, another luxurious port of an arcade game never rereleased until now. Esp Ra.De. Psi (hate the name, love the game) has you controlling a psychic child in an Akira-flavored bullet-heck futurescape. While the themes and music are not as vibrant as Mahou Daisakusen, the actual gameplay is delicious, and has a nice stick-shift friction to changing your shot/speed types. The best parts are the encounters that have you fighting against other psychics, which are some of my favorite boss battles in any of the games I’ve played. The dynamic attacks make it really feel like a battle between 2 telekinetics.
5. Pyre (Supergiant Games, 2017) I frequently see people posting about how they just fell in love with Supergiant’s earlier games Bastion and Transistor, and while I enjoyed both, neither really hit that sweet spot for me (Transistor was #21 on this list, I liked it a lot more than Bastion). So Pyre kind of surprised me in how much it blew me away. I expected to love the gameplay (and I do, it’s classic Supergiant), but the worldbuilding was what really drew me in. No other game I played this year had me as enraptured with the stakes of its story and world like Pyre, and to back it up with such a rock solid fantasy sports game was just the icing on the cake. I’ll get around to Hades at some point, but I’ll be surprised if it bumps of Pyre as my favorite Supergiant title.
4. Flywrench (Messhof, 2017) I love challenging games with deceptively simple controls, and Flywrench nails this so well. EVERYTHING about this game feels, looks, and sounds tuned and purposeful. The aesthetic is both minimal and lo-fi, while still maintaining a unique look. And crucially, the feeling of controlling the game is a god darn triumph. Flapping with the X button, spinning with the square button, selecting a level, even moving left and right has a beautiful depth to it. Probably my favorite thing about Flywrench is the pace of the game, which moves at an incredible clip. Each level only lasts about 10 seconds at the most, which I love. I find myself subconsciously holding my breath during a level and then exhaling if I succeed. Character movement is some of the fastest I've seen in an action game like this; I think it might actually be faster than Super Hexagon. I'm terrified to even look up a speedrun of Flywrench because I think it would give me a heart attack.
3. Wattam (Funomena, 2019) The latest game by the creator of Katamari Damacy and Noby Noby Boy, Keita Takahashi. Takahashi’s games have typically featured actions that are mindlessly fun at a basic level: rolling, stretching, growing. But instead of focus on a single or small handful of mechanics, Wattam finds its joy in giving you as many fun actions as it can think of. Characters can climb on top of each other to form huge stacks, or hold hands and spin in a circle, and even basic video game things like removing headwear are turned into fun physics-based actions. The characters all have child-like voices, so it can kind of feel like taking care of a bunch of babies, but it also has a "everybody is the same and loves to play" message that is hard to not appreciate, especially in this day and age. Wattam was also one of only two out of the 289 games that made me cry.
2. Outer Wilds (Mobius Games, 2019) My wife and I tag-teamed Outer Wilds and had an absolute blast. Another recent game that has been talked about to death here and elsewhere, but for good reason, so I’ll just touch on something I appreciated. Probably my favorite thing about Outer Wilds is how it is absolutely an action game in addition to being an adventure game. The whole game world runs on a (semi-) realistic physics simulation that is a joy to blast around in. Mastering the controls of your ship is a big undertaking, but by the time you have completed the game, you feel like a veteran astronaut. When outside your ship, you have a spacesuit with jetpack, and the jetpack physics are to die for. The universe is built to encourage a lot of daring jetpack jumps, and they never stopped feeling exhilarating, even 10+ hours in.
1. The Ninja Saviors: Return of the Warriors (Natsume, 2019) a kind of remake / sequel to the 1994 Super Nintendo game The Ninja Warriors, which is itself a hugely improved remake / sequel to Taito's arcade original (also called The Ninja Warriors). Not that conceptually dissimilar to Panzer Bandit (game # 10), The Ninja Saviors feels like a hybrid between a fighting game and a beat-em-up, but the controls are done with a beautifully succinct 2 buttons. The amount of awesome-feeling moves that the developers are able to extract from such a limited control scheme made The Ninja Saviors by far my most played game of 2020. So far I’ve managed to do a 1 credit clear with 3 of the 5 characters. If, like me, you enjoy slow action games like Castlevania Rondo of Blood, you owe it to yourself to check this one out.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go watch a movie or read a book or something.

Fallout 76: Update 22 Patch Notes – September 15, 2020

We’re releasing Update 22 today, which includes new features like One Wasteland, Daily Ops, Legendary Perks, and the start of our second Fallout 76 Season. This update also brings a number of additional improvements and bug fixes to the game, so be sure to read on to catch the patch notes.

Update 22 Highlights

Update Version

Check below for the update version and download size for today’s patch on your platform of choice:
  • PC (Bethesda.net): 1.4.0.20 (23.3 GB)
  • PC (Microsoft Store): 1.4.0.20 (37.8 GB)
  • PC (Steam): 1.4.0.20 (27.5 GB)
  • PS4: 1.4.0.20 (35.2 GB)
  • Xbox: 1.4.0.20 (42.6 GB)

One Wasteland

  • With today’s update, we’re excited to introduce One Wasteland to Fallout 76, which allows creatures to dynamically adjust their levels up or down on the fly to more closely match each player they encounter.
    • If multiple players all come across the same enemy at the same time, its level will simultaneously rise for the higher-level players and drop for the lower-level players.
  • In addition to their levels, each creature’s damage, health, and resistances, as well as the loot they drop and the XP they award, will also better match each player.
    • This means that all players who are adventuring together can have an impact on any given combat encounter, even if there is a large level gap between them.
    • While creatures will still have minimum and maximum levels, such as a max of level 50 in The Forest, they are now much more flexible overall.
  • One Wasteland opens up more opportunities to adventure anywhere in Appalachia, whether alone or with your friends. It also smooths out some of the early game bumps for new players, allows higher-level players to get max-level loot in previously lower-level regions, and should offer more consistent combat encounters for everyone.
  • Catch even more details by reading our recent One Wasteland Preview article on Fallout.com.

New Season, Board, & Rewards

  • Join Armor Ace and the Power Patrol in their march against the oppressive Subjugator and his army of Red Viper minions during Fallout 76 Season 2, which begins today!
    • Season 2 brings the all-new “Armor Ace” S.C.O.R.E.board to the game, featuring 100 ranks for you to achieve during the next 10 weeks.
    • We’ve added a host of rewards that you will unlock as you rank up, including new Power Armor paints, Armor and Weapon Skins, themed cosmetics, C.A.M.P. items, in-game currencies, Perk Card Packs, and more.
  • We’ve made several adjustments this Season that you may want to keep in mind as you dive in:
    • Rank-ups will be purchasable immediately, so those who would like to rank up using Atoms can join the fight to crush the Red Vipers starting today.
    • We’ve implemented some new Daily and Weekly Challenges, such as Daily Ops themed Challenges, to offer you even more day-to-day variety as you rank up.
    • We’re also adding more Weeklies to the Challenge lineup so you have more flexibility to progress on your schedule.
    • Finally, we’ve made several of last Season’s rewards, like Lunchboxes, the Ammo Converter, available at Gold Bullion vendors so players who missed them have another opportunity to unlock them.
  • Head to the Seasons page on Fallout.com and read our recent Season 2 Preview article to get more information about Season 2, as well as a look at the rewards that will be up for grabs.

Daily Ops

Put your skills to the test by taking on instanced, randomized, and repeatable encounters called “Daily Ops.” Daily Ops are fairly challenging, and so we recommend them for characters who are level 50+.
  • Our first Game Mode for Daily Ops is called “Uplink,” which will require you to secure a series of Uplinks to track down and destroy enemies that are threats to Appalachia.
    • In Daily Ops, you’ll square off against enemies from a single faction who are affected by a unique “mutation,” which will make them deadlier and more challenging to take down.
    • Complete your objectives, eliminate the enemy threat, and you will be rewarded for your efforts to make Appalachia a safe place for everyone.
  • To join a Daily Op, open the Map screen and find the new World Activity tracker we’ve added in the lower-left corner.
    • Select a Daily Op from the list to learn more about it, including which location, enemies, and mutations you’ll face.
    • Enter Daily Ops directly from the tracker by clicking the “Join” button.
    • You can take on Daily Ops alone or in a team of up to four other players.
  • Each day, Daily Ops will feature a fresh combination of location, enemy faction, and enemy mutations to keep you on your toes.
    • Locations: The Burrows, The Burning Mine, Valley Galleria, or Vault 94
    • Enemy Factions: Super Mutants, Blood Eagles, or Robots
    • Enemy Mutations:
    • Piercing Gaze: This mutation is always applied to enemies the “Uplink” Daily Ops mode, and gives them greatly enhanced perception of players.
    • Volatile: Enemies will explode on death
    • Active Camouflage: Enemies will be cloaked when not attacking
    • Resilient: Enemies can only be killed by a melee attack
    • Freezing Touch: Enemy attacks will freeze players
  • Since you will be facing constant combat and deadly threats during your Operations, we’ve reduced the condition damage taken by your weapons and armor by 50% while in a Daily Op.
  • Like the event “A Colossal Problem,” creatures in Daily Ops will drop ammo based on the weapons you’re using when you take them down. This will help keep your ammo reserves topped off through lots of combat.
  • You can repeat Daily Ops as often as you’d like each day, and you will receive a base set of rewards every time you complete one. However, there are three additional reward tiers that you can reach once per day by completing a Daily Op within certain time limits:
    • Initiate Tier: 16 minutes or less
    • Paladin Tier: 12 minutes or less
    • Elder Tier: 8 minutes or less
    • The higher the tier you achieve, the higher your chances to get better rewards, including more XP, larger amounts of in-game currencies, legendary items, and even brand-new items like the War Glaive, which is a customizable two-handed melee weapon.
  • After finishing a Daily Op, you’ll be able to view an Operation Report, which shows you how fast you managed to complete it, which reward tiers you reached, and a list of the rewards you earned (except for XP and currencies).

Legendary Perks

Legendary Perks are new high-level Perk Cards for players who have reached level 50+, which will help you add even more power and build diversity to your characters.
  • We’ve added a new “Legendary Perks” button to the top of the normal Perk Card Menu, which you can use to access and modify your Legendary Perk Slots and Cards.
  • You will unlock your first Legendary Perk Slot at level 50, and up to 6 slots in total at certain level milestones after that: 75, 100, 150, 200, and 300.
    • If you already have high-level characters, they will immediately have access to one Legendary Perk Slot for each of the above milestones they've reached.
    • For example, a level 250 character will have access to 5 Legendary Perk slots, and will gain a 6th slot at level 300.
    • One Legendary Perk Card can be equipped to each slot, and you can unequip them at any time in exchange for 1 Perk Coin (more on Perk Coins below).
  • Legendary Perk Slots are account-wide, and will be available to all of your characters as soon as you unlock them.
    • Even your characters below level 50 will be able to equip Legendary Perks in these slots, which gives them access to more power at an earlier stage of the game than your higher-level characters had at that level.
  • With Legendary Perks, we’re introducing “Perk Coins,” which you can use to increase the power of your Legendary Perk Cards by upgrading them.
    • Earn Perk Coins by scrapping your unused normal Perk Cards. Each Perk Card you scrap will grant you 2 Perk Coins per rank.
    • For example: When you scrap a rank 1 Perk Card, you’ll receive 2 Perk Coins, and scrapping a rank 3 Perk Card will award 6 Perk Coins.
    • Each Legendary Perk Card can be upgraded up to three times, at a price of 50, 100, and 150 Perk Coins to reach ranks 2, 3, and 4, respectively.
    • While Legendary Perk Slots you’ve unlocked are account-wide, your Legendary Perk Selections and upgrades are separate for each of your characters.
    • To help give your Perk Coin collection a boost, we’ve added a “Become Legendary” Challenge to the Character Challenge Menu, which awards 50 Perk Coins to characters who reach level 50.
    • Please note: If your characters are already level 50+, this Challenge will already be completed for them the next time you log in, and the 50 Perk Coin reward will be added to your Perk Coin total automatically.

Design Updates

General
  • Fast Travel: It is now free to Fast Travel to Foundation and Crater.
Combat
  • Bonus Damage: We’ve changed the way that damage bonuses are calculated so that they now apply additively instead of multiplicatively.
    • Please Note: While stacking damage bonuses will now have a smaller overall effect on your damage output than before, these changes will make the resulting damage much more predictable and allow for future improvements. This is very important for the health of the game going forward. It will also create better opportunities for us to make smarter and more effective balance changes.
    • We are still evaluating feedback we gathered on these changes from the PTS, but we also welcome your thoughts on how different weapons and builds feel after today’s update so that we can make additional adjustments in the future.
Items
  • Alien Blaster: Damage increased by 30%.
  • Legendary Weapons: The Assassin’s legendary attribute now applies its bonus damage to human NPCs.
  • Secret Service Armor: Plans for Light and Ultra-Light Limb Mods for Secret Service Armor have been added, and they are now purchasable from Regs in Vault 79.
  • Shishkebab: Now deals Fire damage instead of Energy damage.
Perks
  • Modern Renegade: Increased Modern Renegade's chance to cripple limbs from 2%/3%/4% to 4%/8%/12%.
  • Tank Killer: Pistols now benefit from the Tank Killer Perk Card.
User Interface
  • Public Teams: We've renamed the "Building" team to "Casual" and removed the Casual team bonus. In its place, we’ve added a “Daily Ops” team type, which offers bonus XP for completing Daily Ops (+25% bonus XP to start, +100% bonus XP for a fully bonded team).
    • We did this in part because it is not possible to build in Public Teammates' C.A.M.P.s., and partly because most players were using the Building team the way we had intended Casual to be used anyway.
    • Removing the Casual team option, it made room for us to add the new Daily Ops team type, which we feel players will find more useful following today’s update.
World
  • Vault 94: Is now accessible during world exploration in Adventure Mode and Private Worlds.
  • Vault 51: We've added a new no-C.A.M.P. zone around Vault 51's exterior in preparation for future content.

    • Please Note: This fix may not address all situations that can cause this issue to occur, but it should help, and we are continuing to work on a more complete fix.
Enemies
  • Scorchbeast Queen: The Scorchbeast Queen’s wings can now be crippled to cause her to land, and her legs can be crippled to slightly reduce her rotation speed.
Items
  • Aid: Fixed an issue in which players were unable to die from Radiation damage while affected by +Max Health buffs, like those offered by Buffout, Bufftats, and Psychobuff.

  • Fireworks: Equipping Fireworks no longer causes players to reload much faster than intended.
  • Gatling Gun: Erroneous “Crafting item unlocked” notifications no longer appear when scrapping Gatling Guns.
  • Loot: Enemies that drop contextual ammo can now correctly drop Arrows, Crossbow Bolts, .38 rounds, 40mm Grenade Rounds, Ultracite Plasma Cartridges, and Ultracite 2mm Electromagnetic Cartridges instead of random ammo when players kill them with the appropriate weapons.
  • Power Armor: Fixed an issue in which Power Armor with the Junkyard Paint was not providing the correct amount of Radiation Resistance.
  • Shotguns: Fixed an issue affecting Suppressor Shotgun Mods that could cause the weapon’s range value to be negative.
  • Underarmor: Secret Service Underarmor Lining Mods can now be correctly applied to Camo Secret Service Underarmor.
  • Underarmor: Fixed an issue that allowed players to craft the Camo Secret Service Underarmor without knowing the Secret Service Underarmor Recipe.
Mutations
  • General: Players can now correctly acquire more than one Mutation in a given play session.

Roccat Burst Core detailed review - the new budget king?

Roccat Burst Core detailed review - the new budget king?

Introduction

The Roccat Burst Core is a cheaper version of the better-specced Burst Pro, trading off the stock "paracord" cable, heat-treated PTFE feet, translucent top shell and PMW3381 sensor in favour of a 50% price cut. However, it does retain the new TTC optical switches, along with similar premium materials and top-notch build quality, making it a very serious competitor in the budget space.

In the Box

Roccat, along with many other companies, has begun the move to more eco-friendly packaging, and this is reflected in the Burst Core. The whole box (with the exception of a recyclable sleeve surrounding the mouse) is paper and cardboard, and there's very little wasted space inside. The Core doesn't come with an extra set of feet, so the only other thing you get is the Quick Start Guide directing you to install software/register the product.

https://preview.redd.it/d2uukytmo3661.jpg?width=4160&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5019bfaf68a64bbfd26c18a7483a85d1957f1da6
The rubber cable is folded and held together with a cable tie at the front of the mouse. This method of packaging does leave kinks throughout the whole cord, which need to be straightened before use. The feet are covered with a blue plastic covering, not a film, which is very easy to spot and remove.

Shape and Ergonomics

On the outside the Burst series seems to be inspired by the WMO, but in the hand it's actually much closer to the Steelseries Rival 3. The hump is taller and more rounded, however, and shifted slightly further back to "round out" the flat slope that the Steelseries product has at the rear - this should make it the better shape for claw and palm grippers.

Blue outline represents the Steelseries Rival 3
Like the Kain, Roccat played it very safe with the Burst's overall design. The sides are nearly completely straight and flat, with only the slightest curvature to provide some extra grip. You can effectively hold the mouse as far forwards as you'd like (for those who hate front flare-outs), and the widening at the back is also quite subtle. The lack of pronounced middle curvature means the Burst Pro initially feels a bit wider than other mice of its size, which took me a bit of getting used to.

https://preview.redd.it/8lwjpx0uq3661.jpg?width=4160&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=eb83bcb25cfb825f24c61990a4ed8f0fdb257876
The mouse is fairly tall, and there should be plenty of room for fingers on either side. The side buttons are large and protrude enough to be easy to reach with a thumb-roll, and the slight inwards slant they have effectively prevents accidental actuations). I'm definitely a fan of the way Roccat designed these, much better than the G203/Rival 3's narrow slits in terms of usability.
M1 and M2 don't have aggressive comfort curves, but there's still a very shallow concavity to them. Something worth mentioning is that Roccat has ditched the "wrap-around buttons" that many mice still have, so no-one should be getting pinched there :)
The scroll wheel is decently wide, with a grippy silicone surface and protrudes at a decent height. Not much to say about them, Roccat usually nails this aspect.

https://preview.redd.it/u1iadkz0r3661.jpg?width=4160&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9762947a5258fab9f128b932f5f010af25a6fbb9
Most of the Burst Pro materials have been carried over onto the Burst Core. The top shell has that same UV-coating which we first saw on the Kone Pure Ultra - it's a very smooth, matte finish that feels grippy even with dry hands (despite its lack of grain), and during my testing period showed no signs of wear. The sides are matte plastic, although the grip area is covered by tiny glossy hexagons. In the hand this just feels like a glossy coating with a tiny bit of texture, which could definitely be an issue for those with sweaty/greasy hands.

https://preview.redd.it/g1ncreg3r3661.jpg?width=4160&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2e735da94699899f9d78d2f88c3df0bd8fd4242a
Weight-wise, the Burst Core feels great. 69g is by no means the lowest number around for an ultralight mouse, but it's still light enough not to be a negative. From the sensor position the Burst is well-balanced, an aspect many ultralights compromise on in their attempts to shave off more grams. Slightly higher weights should always be preferred over badly shifted balance - no point in chasing headline numbers if the mouse feels horrible.

https://preview.redd.it/s4ps9fn5r3661.jpg?width=4160&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d775d85ccba575765cdc644bd398c7e273ab2766
Overall, I'm liking the Burst's shape and design a lot. It's been a long time for me since a mouse has felt so immediately "right" in the hand, and it's evident that quite a bit of thought has been put into this mouse's creation (refreshing after the endless FK/GPW clones we've been seeing). While this opinion definitely still subjective, Roccat seems to have a winner here.

Buttons, Feet and Cable

I'll start off by saying that I definitely TTC implementation of optical switches over any LK variants I've tried (including Razer's v2). The Core's buttons feel snappy, with very pronounced, sharp tactility and plenty of rebound-force. In terms of weighting they're on the heavier side since, as with many other strongly tactile switches, the bump increases the force required to depress them. No mushiness or extra travel to speak of, but they are one of the loudest buttons you'll find on a mouse:

https://reddit.com/link/kg4cwk/video/hrqtbwmar3661/player
The side buttons stick with mechanical switches. They require little force to depress, with very thin-feeling tactile feedback and a high-pitched click. No pre-travel, but there is a small amount of post-travel. Performance-wise these are fine, but nothing special.
Roccat is using a 24-step, mechanical ALPS encoder here, which I've often said is the gold standard of scroll wheel components. As always the Titan wheel remains the best around, with smooth, light scrolling whilst maintaining clear, distinct tactile feedback on each step. Scrolling up quickly results in a looser, louder-sounding wheel, a common occurrence on many mice even though the wheel itself has no wobble.
Scroll click is well-weighted. It's stiff enough to resist any accidental actuations when scrolling, but doesn't take unreasonable effort to press either. Tactility is clear and distinct, and Roccat has improved the travel distance coming from their previous mice (Kone Pure Ultra/Owl-eye).
The mouse feet are carbon-dyed (black) PTFE. The edges are rounded, but the feet use the "hollow-point" design with raised edges and a thinner middle. This results in a faster glide at the expense of smoothness, and in this case because of the shape of the feet creating longer horizontal "ridges", vertical movement is louder and scratchier than horizontal gliding.

https://preview.redd.it/j1zx72zrr3661.jpg?width=4160&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ec33e4f96c7acf8e842e31610f3bc15a9b77da7d
Despite this the performance of the feet is still serviceable, and actually better than the stock feet you'd find from the likes of Steelseries or Logitech. After breaking them in it's a definite "pass" for Roccat, especially considering the Burst Core is a value proposition.
Cable is the Burst Core's greatest weakness. It's a rubber cable, and slightly thicker and less flexible than average. It also comes wrapped up in the box which creates several spring-like kinks along it, which need to be manually straightened before it becomes usable. In a mouse bungee the performance here is mediocre at best, and while the basic points (surface smoothness, stress relief pointed up) are done right, a paracord is recommended for anyone who intends to use this as their main rodent.

https://preview.redd.it/bue5oyzur3661.jpg?width=4160&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9a728235714d499184a7032a7cc6a7045dc8e50e

Performance

Sensor on the Burst Core has been downgraded to the cheaper PMW3331, but the performance decrease is negligible. It appears to be an improved version of the already-existing PMW3330, with slightly higher specs across the board. In the Pixart product stack it's roughly between the now-venerable 3310DH and the 3360, so I did expect good performance from it.
With a 65cm/360° sensitivity, I never noticed any speed-related tracking anomalies in-game (tested in CSGO, Quake Live and Diabotical). This was also corroborated during play with "tricky" surfaces like the MP510, Steelseries DeX and Artisan Raiden, confirming the 3331's good surface compatibility. Undesirable input processing (acceleration, smoothing, etc.) didn't appear to be present at the tested sensitivities.
A common fear with cheaper sensors is overly high lift-off distance, but this isn't an issue with the Burst Core. The absolute tracking cutoff (default settings) is about 2.4mm, or in RJN-speak, two DVDs. While still higher than the Burst Pro's 3381, it's nowhere near as bad as the Rival 3 or un-updated Viper Mini. The sensor position is dead centre, and aligns with the middle of the side buttons - 60mm forwards, and 60mm backwards.
Moving onto xCount plots, we see that the PMW3331 does just fine at the 400, 800, 1600 and 3200 CPI settings. It's not until 5000 CPI that we see the characteristic spike indicating the smoothing threshold. This level of smoothing appears to stay consistent all the way up to the maximum sensitivity of 8500 CPI.

Click into image for better resolution :)
The Burst Core is able to maintain a 1000hz polling rate with no issues whatsover, and as the MouseTester plot shows it's relatively stable, with dropped polls being few and far between.

https://preview.redd.it/3z8w0rra74661.jpg?width=994&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3297304f20036b99f667d0f38c8f5b7f3abe163e
The 3331 is rated for a maximum tracking speed of 300 IPS (7.62 m/s), which I don't expect to be achievable in-game by anyone. During the torture test I was only able to hit about 6.4m/s (252 IPS), which the Core's sensor handled with ease - we're definitely long gone from the days when budget sensors would spin out in use.

https://preview.redd.it/i774zz32u3661.png?width=800&format=png&auto=webp&s=8adc4eb572600522db44f3753bde0ac375c2227e
As for CPI deviation, the Burst Core had decent results all-round, with the 800 CPI setting consistently being closest to the set value. Concerningly there was also a peak in CPI deviation on the 3200 CPI setting - I'm not sure what causes this, but users of that sensitivity should be aware of it. Keep in mind that the deviation level varies between copies (and is affected by tracking surface, lift-off height, etc.).

https://preview.redd.it/wsase957u3661.jpg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=63d5257216cbe4213c0afa8ad575b8b883d4b739
Finally, the MS Paint test. At the 400, 800 and 1600 CPI steps, the sensor performs flawlessly. When pushed to 3200 CPI, however, the level of ripple/jitter becomes noticeable, and is totally unusable at 5000 CPI. This is the only caveat of an otherwise great sensor - those who use higher CPIs should steer clear.

https://preview.redd.it/znyjyl88u3661.png?width=1672&format=png&auto=webp&s=b3be7c821efc0ea6252647be8383476ea4b7aa4e
Moving away from sensor tests, the L/R test software checks the minimum click duration of the Burst Core's TTC optical switches. On a mechanical-switched mouse these results can sometimes also be indicative of the debounce delay, but since the Burst Core lacks this, the results seem to be affected by some sort of release delay. The mode is 20ms on both M1 and M2.

LMB on the left, RMB on the right
Another interesting thing to note is that the TTC opticals can indeed "bounce" the shutter, making drag clicking possible with the average "in-between" time of clicks being 60ms (well over the minimum 20ms).

https://preview.redd.it/rn8fa1ftu3661.jpg?width=277&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aed2a67a22a45b340e194f506f031415aade6922
Bump testing against a pre-25K update GPW (right key) shows the Burst Core (left key) wins consistently by 2-3ms, no doubt on account of the advantages optical switches provide. Keep in mind that this method of testing isn't 100% accurate, and while I did my best to nullify variables such as travel distance and click tensioning, this should be used as a guideline only:

https://preview.redd.it/d8oixn90v3661.jpg?width=361&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=119c6d213247fa881e604f3ee9c6fed638e64ed4
To sum up, in the technical aspect the Burst Core performs great, and I found it pretty much on par with most top mice (including the Burst Pro). For $30 USD there's not much at all to complain about as long as you don't use a sensitivity of over 3200 CPI.

Build Quality

Roccat's products have a reputation for being high quality, and the Burst Core is no exception. Throughout my testing I've found nothing major to fault here; the sides are totally solid with zero flex, pressing on the bottom doesn't actuate any buttons, and nowhere on the shell can I even find the hint of a creak. Shaking the mouse in all directions yields no internal rattling at all.
There's no wobble on the main buttons either, thanks to a clever hinge design which keeps the triggers as part of the top shell. Side and CPI buttons are similarly sturdy. The only noticeable thing nearing a quality problem is the increased loudness of the wheel when scrolling up, but that's so common and so minor that it would be truly pedantic to call that a real con.
Out of the box the feet are aligned correctly and protected with the aforementioned plastic film, which prevented any scratches during shipping. While I'm still not a fan of the way the cable was wrapped, it doesn't seem to have caused any internal damage and throughout the entire testing period functioned perfectly.
The "Roccat Burst" logo was one of my main concerns with durability - printed-on logos often wear off over time, but in this case it's actually been printed sub-surface and is protected by the very durable UV surface coat. It's obviously impossible to tell for sure at this stage, but long-term durability is looking good for the Burst.

Software - Roccat Swarm

The Burst Core is effectively plug-and-play - assuming you're okay with the preset CPI settings, there's no "gotcha" which necessitates the install of their software. Should you want to tinker around though, Roccat Swarm allows you a number of customization options:
  • Scrolling speed
  • Double-click speed (not to be confused with debounce, this just controls how fast you have to click for the inputs to be considered an OS "double-click")
  • OS pointer speed (same as the Windows sensitivity slider, leave this on 0)
  • CPI settings (five steps, each controllable in increments of 100 CPI)
  • Button re-assignments, including several presets (media, "balanced" and "precision")
  • Easy-shift
  • RGB settings (AIMO, wave, solid, heartbeat, blinking, breathing), with speed and brightness options
  • Polling rate customization (125hz, 250hz, 500hz, 1000hz)
  • Angle snapping
  • RGB sleep settings
  • Factory reset option (changes all customizations back to default)
  • Ability to use up to five profiles at once, with auto-switch functionality
  • Macro manager
  • AIMO interactions with other Roccat products
To actually install Swarm, a 160 MB compressed installer has to be downloaded from Roccat's site. This will set up the core software, but in order to get any functionality out of it a mouse-specific "module" needs to be downloaded from within the application. Swarm usually detects what you've got plugged in and prompts you to update, but this doesn't always happen (in which case you need to navigate to the update panel yourself and find the necessary download).

https://preview.redd.it/bygw6e22v3661.jpg?width=1012&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e25cd43190b780222176ddd6222a9e09577b6ef9
While Swarm does offer a decent selection of features, the software itself feels fairly clunky and outdated. Swarm uses a collection of "panels" which the user can drag around and pin, but in my opinion all this does is make the experience feel disjointed and messy. Certain options (such as the polling rate settings) aren't where they intuitively should be, and there are some legacy settings (OS sensitivity, cursor trails, etc.) still lying around on the main screen. It doesn't help that the interface is nowhere near as modern and well-polished as Roccat's products are:

https://preview.redd.it/vxkgup03v3661.jpg?width=1680&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b7b835b95b76afce1cea1e97805006269914067d
To be fair, though, Swarm was pretty much totally stable throughout my time with it (which can't be said for many much newer mouse softwares). It never refused to launch, always closed immediately, and making/saving changes was pretty much instant. Swarm is also light on system resources - when running in the background with the interface open, my CPU usage (Ryzen 7 3700X) remained under a percent. RAM usage was about 100 MB (out of 32 GB).
So basically, despite some visual and organizational shortcomings, Swarm is still a practical and functional software tool that will do most of what you want it to do (with a bit of looking around). It also doesn't need to stick around - the Burst Core has on-board memory that (as far as I can tell) saves everything except for macros.

Conclusion

The budget space is often the most fiercely competitive of any industry, and the Burst Core is Roccat's best entry yet. It has a great safe shape, premium-feeling materials and quality, the sensor's performance holds its own against any top optical (as long as you don't go over 3200 CPI), and what's in my opinion the best optical switch implementation on the market. For $30 USD that's an enormous bang for very little buck - if the shape suits you, I'd be picking this up over the G203 Lightsync and Rival 3 for sure.
Shape and Ergonomics (subjective): 5/5, I personally really like the shape :)
Buttons, Feet and Cable: 3/5, points deducted on account of the feet and cable.
Performance: 4/5, just don't use >3200 CPI.
Build Quality (copy dependent): 4.5/5, scrolling up is louder = deduction.
Software: 2.5/5, decent enough, could use improvement.
Thanks for reading guys, feel free to ask any other questions not covered here :)

[Game Review] Hexicon - Words w/ Friends but Better

Hexicon is a turn based word game with a strategic element in the form of a hexagonal grid. Players play words that earn them tiles on the board. Points are earned when a hexagon of tiles is formed. The player with the majority control of that hexagon earns a point. The board is then updated with new tiles. The goal of the game is to reach 16 points. The game is easy to learn but has a good skill ceiling which means improving and finding better strategies is a blast.
The strategy involved in placing words is reminiscent of words with friends however Hexicon keeps the game much more fresh and dynamic by updating the board. The strategic possibilities are much more nuanced and the gridlock that often occurs in board based word games is not present in Hexicon.
The game's only monetization is for coins which can be used to purchase cosmetic items such as avatars and board themes. There are no obtrusive ads or popups. The game is completely free to play and has no powerups or anything of that sort.
Google Play Store Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hexicon&hl=en_US&gl=US
Apple App Store Link: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/hexicon-word-game/id1462065373
The tutorial for the game is extremely short and intuitive so I would highly recommend downloading the game and giving it a shot.

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition - Updated Modding Guide

This modding guide is written for The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition version 3.5.0.26 (A) from GOG. It should be compatible with the steam and retail versions as long as they're patched to patch 3.4. This guide's main goal is to provide a balanced experience by fixing gameplay bugs, introducing secondary gameplay mechanics and other quality of life features. It also includes lore-friendly character textures and additional animations as optional files.
Modding The Witcher 2 can be a slow, boring and even difficult process, especially if you have never done it before and you need to manually update, and combine outdated mods. For that reason, I've combined all conflicting mods and packed the edited scripts into one main mod compilation. That's why there's only 1 mandatory mod in this guide. 99% of the code in this compilation is other people's hard work, so I'll go into details about the fixes and I'll link every mod that has been used. I'll appreciate it if you take five minutes of your time and like/endorse the work of the modders that made this possible.
This modding guide is divided in three steps - 1 mandatory and 2 optional. The optional steps cancel each other out, so you must pick one. If you don't like either, you can just ignore them. The first optional step introduces only minor texture and animations changes. The game stability is identical with the vanilla game, so if ANY crashes happen, it's not mod related.
The second optional step replaces the vanilla environment, character, weapon and armor textures with 4k textures. It also increases the vegetation rendering distance - an engine limitation the game has been suffering from since release. The downside is that its stability is hardware dependent. Crashes can occur, but its tough to say if you'll experience them until you do. I did my testing on a couple of pcs and I'm satisfied with the results, but your mileage may vary. I'll provide instructions that should work for most people.
To prevent crashes, I advise you not to use the launcher and launch the game straight from witcher2.exe located in The Witcher 2\bin folder via a shortcut. Ubersampling makes the game less stable, and I can't recommend it unless you have a beastly pc. If you keep it turned off, you'll double or even triple your frames depending on the resolution you're playing on. Even if you have a strong graphics card, RTX gpus have some problems with the game, so keep that in mind.

[ MANDATORY STEP ]

Here's a complete list with a short explanation of what each of the mods added to YAMC does:
Enhanced Mod Compilation - Minimal 0.6.5 by QuietusPlus. This wonderful mod serves as the base for the compilation. The 'Minimal' version comes with several features, some of them notably overpowered. To keep the in-game balance some of them were cut, those that made the cut include:

Mutagenology - 0.3a by kamilius - This mod introduced craftable mutagens long before TW3 did it. You can pay craftsmen to combine for you lesser mutagens into more powerful ones. In order to do so you have to buy formulas from specific merchants. The mechanic is available at the start of Chapter 1.
Link to original mod: https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher2/mods/75
Junk Dismantling - 0.2 by Barrodin - This mod is expanding the crafting by allowing Geralt to dismantle all of his useless junk items to raw materials. The action can be performed by any craftsman for a small fee. The mechanic is available at the start of Chapter 1.

Grass color fix for Vergen - 1.0 by roggan - A fix for a texture bug in Chapter 2 on Iorveth's path.
Link to original mod: https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher2/mods/303
Market Prices Tweak by menyalin (code) and Paul_NZ (original idea) - In The Witcher 2 you're constantly strapped for cash. Geralt has limited opportunities to earn money and if you want the best gear, you have to go dumpster diving or farm harpy feathers. The unfair 24:1 buy/sell ratio doesn't help either. In comparison, the ratio in The Witcher 1 was 5:1. This mod applies the older ratio and makes sure Geralt doesn't get taken advantage of by greedy merchants. [ OPTIONAL STEP 1 ]

  • [OPTIONAL ] - Hiuuz's The Witcher III shaved Geralt for The Witcher 2 1.0 - Extract the 'CookedPC' folder to the main game directory. This mod ports Geralt's face from TW3. Good for continuity - https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher2/mods/919
  • [OPTIONAL ] - Hiuuz's The Witcher III Triss Merigold for The Witcher 2 1.0 - Extract the 'CookedPC' folder to the main game directory. This mod ports Triss' face from TW3. Good for continuity - https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher2/mods/920
  • [OPTIONAL ] - Pirouette Dodge 2.0 - Extract the 'characters' folder to The Witcher 2\CookedPC folder. The mod replaces the default rolling dodge animation with a custom made piroutte animation. It s how the witcher fighting style is described in Sapkowski's books. The only downside is that the pirouette animation is equal to the upgraded default one, so the 'footwork' talent in Geralt's talent tree does nothing with the mod installed. - https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher2/mods/697

[ OPTIONAL STEP 2 ]

  • [OPTIONAL ] - Extreme Vegetation Rendering Distance 1.0 - Extract the 5 folders to The Witcher 2\CookedPC folder. The mod provides increased rendering distance for over 250 vegetation models. - https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher2/mods/898
  • [OPTIONAL ] - AI Upscale Textures 1.73OPT - Download the three 'OPTIMIZED' main files. Also, download the 'AI Upscale Hiuuz's The Witcher III shaved Geralt for The Witcher 2' and 'AI Upscale Hiuuz's The Witcher III Triss Merigold for The Witcher 2' miscellaneous files. Extract the folders from each of the main files to The Witcher 2\CookedPC folder. Then extract the folders from each of the miscellaneous files to the same CookedPC folder. Overwrite when/if prompted. Now navigate to C:\Username\PC\Documents\Witcher 2\Config, prepare a text editor and follow the detailed instructions I've written in this pastebin. - https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher2/mods/889
If you experience issues and want to get rid of the mod, navigate to CookedPC folder and delete every folder with 'movies', 'sounds' and 'globals' being the exception. Don't forget to delete the two edited .ini files from the Documents folder, too.
If you used only the mandatory file or the mandatory file + the optional files from step 1, you don't have to do any testing. If you've installed the mandatory file + the optional files from step 2, it will be a good idea to walk around the maps in Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 for about 30 minutes and see if you're going to crash or if the textures are loading properly.
I also posted The Witcher: Enhanced Edition - Revised Modding Guide a couple of days ago. Here's a link if you're interested.
